ROMANTIC TIMES said: Madeline Baker writes of a ghost, a curse, and a second chance with such power and passion, readers cannot help but be mesmerized.

ONE OF MY READERS SAID: I love outlaw heroes - I mean true outlaws, none of this revenge themes or undercover cops. I want a true outlaw who doesn't mind stealing for his own gain. J.T. Cutter is that sort of outlaw; he's a card sharp and when the cards aren't going his way, he cheats. He doesn't mind stealing, either, which eventually gets him hung. Heaven doesn't consider him Heaven material (I wonder why!) but they do consider him redeemable. Of course, a leopard doesn't change his spots overnight. Kidnapping a woman, stealing a horse, and attempting to cheat on his first card game since getting his reprieve isn't the best of starts. He starts changing gradually, of course, with some persuasion from his "guardian angel". Buy this book now. I guarantee you won't be able to put it down."

UNDER A PRAIRIE MOON

June 1998
"He is the most frightening, handsome man I have ever seen"

Although these words had been written in another time, in another woman's diary, Kathy Conley thought they described Dalton Crowkiller perfectly. He was the kind of man a woman would sin for, die for, if she could only keep him in her arms.

But the dangerous half-breed belonged to the untamed West, and he'd been claimed by another woman long ago. Time itself would keep him and Kathy apart...until he was given one last chance to change the course of his life. Together, they found there was no past, no future, only the wonder of the present, the raw, aching desire between them, and a fierce love that could be satisfied, but never quenched.

Prologue

July 28, 1873

A lynch mob was an ugly thing. Dalton Crowkiller stared down at the handful of men who surrounded him, his heart pounding like a runaway locomotive, his throat desert dry, his palms damp. He shifted in the saddle, feeling the rough edge of the noose rub tighten around his neck.

The big bay beneath him stamped restlessly. In moments, someone would give the horse a sharp slap on the rump and there would be nothing between him and death but a few feet of rope.

He swallowed the bile that rose in his throat as he tried to imagine what those last moments would be like. If he was lucky, the drop would break his neck and his dying would be quick and merciful. If not...

He shook the gruesome image from his mind as his gaze shifted to the woman standing in the distance. The breeze stirred the hem of her long white nightgown and ruffled the collar of the blue silk robe she wore over it. Her hair, the reddish-brown of autumn leaves, tumbled over her shoulders. She was staring back at him, her eyes wide and scared and guilt-ridden.

His gaze imprisoned hers. If she had the nerve, she could save him. She was the only one who could.

Come on, he thought, come on... He stared at her, willing her to find the courage to say the words that would free him. Damn you, I don't deserve this...
She took a half-step forward, her expression uncertain. Hope flared in his heart. Flared and died when she turned and ran up to the house, leaving him to face his fate alone....

Some of my readers said::

Love and Passion as pure as gold!  The first third of the story is about Kathy meeting the ghost of Latoka half- breed, Dalton Crowkiller. This is easily one of the most heart- churning and innocent stories of building romance I've ever read. They can see one another, they can talk to one another, he can even hold her and kiss her for a moment. But his spiritual energy becomes weak, causing him to fade away if he spends the energy expressing his feelings. They are becoming so close in heart, but are so far from the ability to show it. This couple is so beautiful together, I found myself nearly holding my breath while waiting to see if they would win their quest for a lifetime together. I felt every one of their highs and lows throughout the book. This is some excellent writting. by Anonymous on November 30 2003 >b>Nearly 400 pages long, I read this book in one day. There was no point where I could put it down.
I would Sin for Him - too! Excellent!
All I thought about while I was reading this book was, "why couldn't this be me". For once in my life let lady luck or fate or destiny might sprinkle a little bit of "love" on me for a change! Whatever Kathy Conley was destined for - I want some of it! by Anonymous on October 04 1998

Madeline Baker will have trouble topping this one.
The most moving novel I thought Madeline Baker had written was First Love, Wild Love--until now. Under A Prairie Moon was just as poignant and romantic, if not more, and was definitely a page turner. Mixing in humor, time travel, and honest emotion, I finished the book easily in one night. The end is a tear jerker, knowing that Kathy and Dalton's fate is inevitable, but only for a short time. I can see Madeleine really put her heart and soul into creating Dalton, and I found myself hoping that my own Dalton Crowkiller would somehow appear in my own Montana home. He's the epitome of tall dark and handsome, and still possesses a gentle soul that made me all the more attracted to him. Great book, wonderful character. This Eddie Little Sky must've made quite the impression on Madleine Baker if he was her inspiration for her Indian characters, particularly Dalton. Her attraction for him was more than evident.

Loved it !!!!!!!!!!!
A lovely story of a ghost who was hanged for something he didn't do, given a second chance to change history. One of the best stories I have read. I shall be looking for more of Madeline's books in future.

I couldn't stop reading until the end!
Great book! Magnificent! And yes,I couldn't stop reading until I've reached the end....I feel the love and passion between Kathy and Dalton. Madeline Baker describes it beautifully and I love it so much that I've read it for more than 3 times!
